Flash Game Friday – The Last Stand

I hope you fingers are ready to click. This Friday’s Flash game is titled The Last Stand. A game focusing on surviving each night in a post-zombie apocalyptic world, you’re tasked with protecting your barrier and shooting as many zombies in the head as possible.

After each night you get time to repair your barrier, search for new weapons, and try to find survivors to join your army. It took me several plays, but I was able to survive and beat the game. The only piece of advice I can provide is aim for the head and take down the fatties and the runners.

and if you beat it:

[Update: For those who say the game is too hard, see if you can beat my score, of no deaths and 480 head shots.]

Today’s Friday Flash game is titled Fancy Pants Adventure. A mix of Mario, Sonic and Line Rider, your character moves with the arrow keys and can jump with S, but as he runs down slopes he gains momentum and can navigate loopy-loops and jam gnarly back-flips to charge through levels.

Developed by Borne Games, it’s one of the best Flash platformers developed to date. Stop reading this post and play the game already.

Play Fancy Pants Adventure: World 2

and if you beat that, head back and play the original World 1.

Flash Game Friday – Crush the Castle

Is it Friday already? Shit Yeah! This Friday’s Flash game is titled Crush the Castle. I destroyed all 24 castles in the game, can you?

Developed by Armor Games, Crush the Castle lets you rain stones down on susceptible wooden castles. Your objective is to rock the castle supports to bring the house down on the guards and royalty, so the timing of your catapult throw is key. Click to start the throw, click to let it fly. Hit the weak spots and you can bring the castle down in one throw.

Flash Game Friday – Canabalt

This Flash game Friday goes out to the Minister of Interior Design. Just keep reaching for the stars and maybe someday you’ll beat my 3643m score.

Today’s Flash game is Canabalt. Developed by Adam Atomic who created Flixel. He developed this game to showcase the commercial potential of a simple 2d Flash game using the library of code he developed over the past couple years. The game utilizes a single key to jump obstacles, but the levels are randomly generated so no play through is the same.

Flash Game Friday – Cream Wolf

It’s been a while since I’ve made a non-administrative post, and now that we have our new system I think it’s time to reintroduce a weekly post. As I’ve started working and learning more and more about game development, I have a new appreciation for the little guy. In small teams some amazing and creative games are made. They may not have the fanciest graphics, but the themes and concepts are always pretty unique. Which leads me to my first post in this category – Cream Wolf – a game that uses old school graphics and gameplay, but presents a really unique story.

I recently posted on this on my personal site, but it’s too good not to share with all of I.F.S. I won’t ruin the concept with a summary, but just go play it when you’re bored today or this weekend. I’ll follow this up with a post every Friday of an awesome and free game.

Flappy Does Adventures

It’s been a long time in the making, but I’ve finally reached a good spot to release the new I.F.S. game – Flappy Does Adventures.

Check it out and let me know how it runs. There are 5 levels and too many changes from the last one to list. I don’t know how it will run on each computer so let me know if you experience any issues.

The game uses Mochi games accounts, and you can use this to just sign-in with your Facebook account to track your scores. The game also saves your progress to the computer so as you beat levels you can jump back in at the next level.

Our buddy opened up for this band in Athens, GA. recently.  It reminds me of the time A&D and ID stayed up all night playing Contra.  So Badass.

Social Development

Sorry this post will be a bit convoluted, but I have a few things to bring up. Here are the things I would like to discuss:

  1. I tried to deliver password protected posts yesterday, but they aren’t going to work in our current system. There are two options moving forward to achieve this goal:
    • keep us on MovableType but move over to dynamic content (php). This would have the least effect on everyone, but as I have found from using MT, it is not as widely supported as WordPress, so there are less cool plugins.
    • move us onto WordPress. This would be a new system, but it is really similar to MT so everyone should be able to figure it out. I know we just moved so I am weighing that in my decision. The last move took several days time so I will not be making this move for a while.

  2. The I.F.S. Game is moving along nicely. I have added a link to the top of the left column for easy access in the future. Everything is set for another level, but it would be nice to get the scoreboard completed as well. Which would you rather see first?
  3. The I.F.S. Constitution – Our beloved Minister of Philanthropy has drafted a more formal constitution that needs to be melded with our napkins so that we have super sacred documents. Philanthropy has some great ideas for formalizing some elements of our society in an effort to preserve it’s original intent, while providing groups of ministers the freedom to conduct meetings and business.
  4. The Next I.F.S. Meeting – We have a real need for some business to be taken care of, and the next meeting is a great opportunity for this to happen. I don’t want to sink ships, but from what I have heard Chicago is not going to happen, as there are many unknowns in people’s lives right now. The latest I heard from Team Germany was that they will not be able to make it. I personally am sitting on my rebate money, but could really use it to cover the past month’s credit bills as I apparently got a little crazey.
  5. It Doesn’t Happen At IHOP – I got the call and our story was a runner-up.

Any other business to discuss?

I.F.S. The Game – Level 2

Several weeks have been spent on improving the game since the first demo.

Here are the improvements:

– Now has a 2nd level – help Schroeder find his way.

– You now bounce off enemies when you jump on them

– There is a preloader for the game, probably won’t see it, but it’s there.

– In Level 2, there is now water / lava, don’t fall in or you die.

– You can no longer jump through the bottom of floors / walls

– The clock is now fixed so it doesn’t start ticking away until the first level actually starts.

– In Level 2, there is a boss of sorts…

– And finally, there is now a scoreboard. I haven’t prettied it up, but from now on scores will be saved when you hit save, so in the next week or so I will have a pretty scoreboard in place.

– Oh and I almost forgot, I don’t have time to fix this, but our beloved anthem now gets played in a round when you advance to level 2, twice the anthem, twice the fun.

– For you score junkies out there the new highest score possible after the two levels is 6800 pts or somewhere around there.

Enjoy the game, see many of you in a few hours.

I.F.S. – The Game – Level 1

I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, and I finally had the motivation to get started on it. So I present to you the first demo level in the first I.F.S. game.

In the first level you are trying to help our Minister of Finance find the key to his Passat while battling the evil waffle people in an effort to make it to meeting. There are still a lot of improvements and levels to be made, but I couldn’t make it another week without sharing my progress. Please test it out and let me know your comments, ideas, and concerns. The high score possible for this first level is 2500 pts.
