July 3rd, 2009

The early morning meeting began in regular fashion with a round of Budweisers.  Instead of bottles, beers were served in tapered pint glasses from a keg of Budweiser bought specifically for the breakfast.

The anthem was sung a cappella.

IFS welcomed guest members Zach, Chuck, and Nick. This was followed by the introducing of the roles.

Memorable Quotes:

Guest Member Chuck stood up and said, “It’s great what you guys are doing.  I love hanging out with guys who want to have fun.”

Break for cigarettes and breakfast served buffet style.

Minister of Media and Technology opened up the business portion of the meeting. He announced a possible change to the IFS website because of errors occurring on the current site.  He also talked about a new IFS game that is on the horizon and promised he would wow us next meeting.

Minister of MOM began by announcing the winner of IFS taco post competition was Rabbi of Culinary Affairs for his goat slaughtering taco post.  The prize – a slap chop.  (This would not be the last we would hear of the slap chop during the weekend).

Rabbi of Culinary Affairs discussed meal plans for the weekend including a Saturday meal at the cabin – Hot Dogs, Chili Dogs, and Hamburgers were among the items put out on the table.

Minister of Revelry and Spirits began a heated discussion concerning quorum, the constitution, and membership.

During the lengthy dialogue that followed, Minister of Letters and guest member Ben arrived as did guest member Stephan and his brother Mike.  Meanwhile, guest member Nick exited early.  As Minister of Letters and guest member Ben entered the Blue Angel Café, everybody paused to welcome the late arrivals with another rendition of the anthem.

Once everyone was settled and had a chance to smoke a cigarette and get some food on their plate, the discussion mentioned above continued.  No official motions were voted on.  But as a group, IFS confirmed the need to adhere to the guidelines laid out in the Constitution when deciding formal business matters.

Minister of Revelry and Spirits went on to suggest inviting parents to the next IFS meeting.  A title was thrown out – IFS: The Parents.

Minister of Letters announced the Killers will be playing at the Santa Barbara Bowl.  He invited members to try to make it to the show and celebrate his birthday with him which happens to coincide with the concert.

Minister of Health talked in more depth about the Philadelphia trip he announced during the introducing of the roles.  He invited everyone at the table and all members to ring in the New Year in Philadelphia.

To save time, Minister of Competition passed on official business.  He had offered valuable input throughout the meeting.

Minister of History spoke about constructing a historical document that will be ready for the next meeting.

Rosie, the co-owner of Blue Angel Café, continued to bring out pitchers of beers on in as needed basis, so no official rounds of beer followed the first round.  Many pitchers were needed.

After official business, the meeting moved promptly to the Member of the Month voting.

Minister of Revelry and Spirits won the Member of the Month award convincingly with eight votes for his efforts to plan the Lake Tahoe trip.

Minister of Philanthropy took the Continental Breakfast award by a narrow margin with two votes for his absence from the meeting.

Meeting Adjourned.
