IFS: The Grapes of Wrath (Part Deux)

Here we go!  This Friday, we will once again celebrate the birth of the International Flapjack Society!  After weeks of planning, we have arranged what is sure to be a weekend worthy of our beloved institution.

Friday evening, Mesa Lane welcomes you back to Santa Barbara with a good old fashioned house party.  Everyone will be trickling into SB at various times throughout the day, and we will have a party waiting for you upon your arrival.

I have taken the liberty of booking a kick-ass 80’s cover band called The Lone Angels to play our party.  These guys are sweet as hell and they are cool enough to play for a bottle or two of Jameson.  The singer dresses up as the Karate Kid and the rest of the band is decked out in Cobra Kai gear.  Strike First.  Strike Hard.  No Mercy.
cobraKaiLarge.jpgSaturday morning, slip into your suits before we have our breakfast/meeting at the Goleta IHOP: the site where it all began.  20+ people together in suits is going too look bad ass.

I am pleased to inform the group about some very strong guest members that will be joining us for the weekend:  Kevin Manchester and Nick Sauls, good friends of the Santa Barbara crew, as well as Ben Gordon, new Mesa house resident.  I am also very pleased to inform you that Younger/Taller will be inducted as an official member of the International Flapjack Society.

After breakfast and meeting have been completed, all of us will reconvene back to the Mesa house where we will file into a mini-bus which will take us to the Santa Ynez mountains for an afternoon of wine tasting.

wine tasting1.jpg  If you were there last time we did wine tasting, you know that this was one of the most fun events we have put together since IFS’s conception.  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it… so let’s do it again!

After sampling some of the finest wines the central coast has to offer, the bus will drop us off in downtown Santa Barbara where we will all gather for a group dinner at El Paseo.

el paseo.JPGEl Paseo is one of the few restaurants in SB that is capable of accommodating a group as large as ours, and fortunately the food is kick ass too.

After dinner we will stumble over to Old Kings Road where we will close out the night.

As you can see, this is a jam packed, activity filled day, so don’t get too fucked up too quick.

Sunday:  It’s been a while since we saved Christmas at the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara, and  we still talk about it with pride to this day.  It’s about time IFS gave back once again.  This time around, we will visit the residents of Hillside House: a residence for those with developmental disabilities (my other place of employment).  With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this will be a good opportunity to engage in some holiday based arts and crafts with the residents.  Philanthropy is back in IFS!

tom.jpgThis is Tom.  He’s a bad ass, and his mustache has only gotten stronger since this picture was taken.

Cost Breakdown:

Friday’s party:  – This shouldn’t cost us too much individually.  2 kegs and some handles (plus the band’s bottles of Jameson) divided between 20+ people should only add up to about $15-20 per person.

Saturday:  – As usual, breakfast at IHOP typically has been costing around $35.
– The mini bus costs $150 per hour with a 5 hour minimum (ie $600).  With at least 20 people on the bus, that ends up being around $30 for transportation.  If I remember correctly, tastings at each winery were less than $10.  If we hit up three wineries, that makes the wine tasting adventure approx $60 a pop… less if we end up with more than 20 people on the bus.
– El Paseo dinner: Depending on how much you think you’ll be drinking, this could be anywhere from $30-$40.
–  OKR:  Spend as much or as little as you like
– Drunk in Public fine: $1,000

So, you could come out of this weekend having spent as little as $150.  Realistically, you can plan on shelling out between $150-$200.  Have cash on hand so we can take care of all expenses smoothly and efficiently.

That should be everything.  I’m leaving work here in a sec, so if any updates or changes need to be made, I’ll make them later tonight.

Best.  Weekend.  Ever.

aiight. the anniversary is upon us.
just a reminder to bring cash this weekend so we can take care of everything (party, bus, dinner) smoothly. Also, three (possibly four) people who were originally scheduled to go wine tasting are now unable to go, which is going to drive up the bus price a bit. Sorry y’all.
off to bed… it’s nice knowing this will be the last bit of sleep i get for 48 hours.
